Message The purpose of advancing timing is to account for combustion lag. You want peak cylinder pressure when the crank is that optimal leverage angle to deliver the most torque. Advancing timing is a band aid for slower burn time. The higher the boost or cylinder pressure the faster the burn time which requires also less timing. Of course lower octane fuel will require retarded timing so you loose power because the timing is not at the precise setting .
